Date of Hike: 2/4
Trail Conditions: Nearly completely dry up to about 3000 feet. Ice building from 3000-3300 feet; nearly continuous ice and packed snow above 3300. Only a few inches of base left along ridge.
Special Equipment Required: Boots fairly easy up to 3000 ft. After that, lots of extended sections of ice that could be avoided with effort. Microspikes essential above 3300 - one ~100 foot long and rather steep section around 3300 feet elevation had highly glazed and smooth ice that was challenging even with microspikes.
Another great trail and beautiful day - we hiked from Rt. 214 to the viewpoint just east of the Plateau Summit. First time on this trail - steep climb but the walk along the ridge was wonderful. Interesting transition into dense forest. Also discovered that our 2003 maps are getting out of date when we ran across a Long Path connection up on the ridge!
