Hiked this loop on Saturday (8/28) via the Blueberry Ledge, Rollins, and Dicey's Mill trails. Started out early (7am) at the Ferncroft parking lot and headed up the Blueberry ledge trail. There were some nice open sections on the lower portion of the trail but it was very hazy so I couldn't see much. Plenty of chickadees (both boreal and black-capped), warblers and even a hummingbird on the ledges. I either underestimated the Blueberry ledge trail or I was tired (or a little of both) but eventually got the top of the first peak. I realized I had to go a bit further past the junction of the Kate Sleeper trail to get to the actual peak of Whiteface. The Rollins trail was ok and as it was hazy I had little views into the "bowl". Stopped along the way to have a quick snack and continued on to the junction of Dicey's Mill and Rollins. Continued up the Dicey's Mill to the summit of Passaconaway. There were some good views from an opening just below the summit. Got a view of the "Captain" which I have never seen before. Saw evidence of the old Downes Brook slide trail at the top of Passaconaway. Quickly headed down the Dicey's Mill back to the parking lot. All in all a good trip. Spied a peregrine falcon near the parking lot.... a nice end of the hike treat! One more to go (Isolation).
