5-12-13: Happy Mother's Day all.
Eisenhower and Pierce via Crawford Path

As a tribute to my mother's memory I thought standing atop a mountain was the best place to say 'hello'.

Trail Conditions: I hit the trail at roughly 7:20 and immediately questioned my choice to pack my snowshoes. The trail was dry (more or less) until Gibbs Falls.

The monorails, ice flows, and soft snowbeds became more significant after the Mitzpah Cut-Off Junction. I wore microspikes and took them on and off several times before reaching the next junction for Pierce and the Mitzpah Hut. I bare-booted most of the col between this junction and the summit of Eisenhower. Today's conditions were a complete mixed bag of dry, wet, running water, ice, slush, stable monorail, unstable monorail, and minor ice flows.

All water crossings were easily hopped or stepped over. There were a few deeper puddles approaching Eisenhower but they were hoppable or skirtable.

On my way back from Ike I made my way up Pierce which was water, snow, and ice free.

Special Equipment Required: I found that microspikes and trekking poles were extremely helpful but the trail runner I encountered on his ascent had none of the above.

Comments: No views today as I was back in the Highland lot a few minutes after 11:00 (clearing did begin to occur during my ascent) I saw a few families and a couple of groups of barebooters who looked envious of my Kahtoolas. ;) Another great day on the trail and a nice opportunity for a solo hike.
