Hiked the wonderful route yesterday with my two athletic nephews, who raced and waited, raced and waited, over and over, for their old uncle to catch up.

Rain made some spots slick and muddy, but no place was difficult other than the steeps. The ladders on the Willey Range Trail were still dry in the morning when we climbed them. Several snow patches of no consequence between Willey and Field. Watch your feet on the glacier-smoothed granite on the crest of the ridge as well as on the wet roots.

Special equipment: None, but good boots always a smart idea. Be prepared for inclement weather, as usual. Lots of black flies and mosquitoes down low.
