6/4
Did the Presidential Traverse in a day. Stayed at Barnes Field for an early start at Pine Link. Followed Pink Link to Howker and then followed a traditional traverse from there, hitting all the summits except the four lesser members of the Adams family. Hit one meaningful snow field (maybe 15 yards across) on the approach to Jefferson along the loop - snow was soft enough that traction was not needed, hard enough to support weight with no floatation. Gorgeous ice formations (remnants of Rime Ice) on the downward facing sides of rocks and cairns on the approach to Washington - but almost nothing on the foot path.
Black flies were abundant and especially fierce from Eisenhower to Jackson. Greatest hazard was water on the rock surfaces of Webster Cliff trail especially after sunset. Most of the trails were relatively dry. Glorious day! Great group!
Traction and flotation definitely not necessary. Sun and bug protection helpful.
