Yogi and I took a couple days off to bag a couple NHH(&8)H peaks.
Rocky Branch trail from Jericho Rd. is a pleasant 2-mile walk along the river. Reminds me of Wilderness trial without the ties to trip over. Stairs Col Tr. is easy for a mile or so, then pretty relentless the last mile up to Davis Path. A couple blow downs but nothing that can't be stepped over. Plenty of water on this trail as well and the dog took advantage on this 80 deg. + day.
I actually walked past the spur to Stairs off Davis as it is posted with a camping sign. I assumed this was a spur to a campsite and continued until the descent told me I was wrong.
Outstanding views. I had been here before on Davis Path and skipped the spur. Bad move, well worth the walk. Is there any peak in the Whites you can't see Chocorua from? Seems to always stick it's head above everyone for a little guy.
The true summit is up for discussion. Wacked up to what seemed to be several high points. A little snarly up there but saw no jar or other markings. Saw no one all day, until back at the car where a guy was heading in for the night.
