Hi all,
I spent five days over the Labor Day weekend tramping around the Whites checking out trails and peak bagging for our campaign.
Peaks bagged included Lafayette, Lincoln, Liberty, Flume, Jackson, Pierce, Eisenhower, Waumbek, Tom, Field, Willey and Hale.
I won't get into all of those trails here, but if any of you are planning trips to or around any of those peaks, drop me a PM and I'd be happy to provide some info.
In response to a couple posts I noticed:
- Lincoln Woods suspension bridge WAS open, now it is closed. You have to go around over the Kanc Bridge to the access point there to get to Lincoln Woods Trail.
- Lincoln Woods Trail is walkable but a mess. Don't try it with a bike.
- Osseo if fine. No damage at all to the ladders and steps. A couple drainage logs slid a little but nothing major.
- Edmunds Path is fine. The bridge slid a foot or so but it's fine and there were no difficult washouts.
- AZ Trail just west of the Avalon split has an enormous blowdown directly in the trail. I spent some time trying to break off some branches to make it safer, but bigger equipment is going to be needed for that one.
- Old Bridal Path is in great shape except for the first 1/4 mile up to the Falling Water split. The Walker Brook jumped the bank there and carved two or three new paths. The trail there is now just a ravine with rocks in it.

Anyway, I have some trail reports and an enormous amount of pics that can be accessed through our website here: www.september48.com
Or like I said, just drop me a note and maybe it's a trail I walked on.

Now, I was wondering if anyone has attempt Owl's Head since Irene? I'm looking for any information on the Lincoln Brook Trail, both below the Owls Head Path and north of it as well up to Thirteen Falls Tentsite.
Thanks!

There is a Meetup hike going there from Lincoln Woods on Saturday, so if you wait until after that you will have some first hand reports.

We have done Owl's Head from the north before in a dry time - Twin Brook trail to Lincoln Brook trail - and it was extremely wet. With all the rain we are having this week, it is not something we'd recommend. It can be hard to follow in the best of times.

I ran into someone in the Mountain Wanderer on Sunday who said the trail to Owlshead was just fine, almost no damage.

Thanks Bob and Geri and David,
I likely won't try for it until next weekend anyway, so may as well wait and see if I can talk to somebody from the meetup group!
