Bring your ear plugs. Could get a little noisy hiking a long The Southern Appalachian Trail. Two different varieties of broods within the Cicada family are hatching this year at the same time since the last occurrence in 1803. Fortunately it looks like only one variety in the south. Also interesting to see the predictions going forward creeping as far north as NJ. https://www.vox.com/science/24047261/cicada-brood-xix-xiii-19-13-map

Sounds like an incredible natural event! While it might get noisy, it's a unique opportunity to witness a phenomenon that hasn't occurred since 1803. Enjoy the hike and the cicada symphony!
