a friend from High School has gone overboard  the past few years pursuing a passion for diving and underwater photography. His work and techniques were recently the subject of a 4 page spread in the Dec'07 issue of Popular Photography & Imaging Magazine. He spends a few months a year in the Maldives, he may be there now. I have nothing to do with this and his stuff is not for sale, I just thought I'd share some tropical warm water images as the storms approach. No nudes, a couple of bikinied friends though, mostly fish and coral.

Underwater Photography by Mark Snyder.

Edit; No longer not relevant now that it's in the Photog section, Enjoy !

The article in the Pop. Photog. mag was pretty interesting if you can pick it up. He uses the lighting like a portrait photographer would, feathering the subject with the edge of the cone of light to create more depth and detail. This guy was an art student and painted land scapes in Europe for a while. He was "asked to leave" Budapest for repeatedly stealing art supplies and Rome for failing to pay utility bills :) . Real starving artist stuff as a young man. Lately he's a remodeling contractor in NY and only began diving about 10 years ago. He's totally psychotically committed to something when it interests him, though.

Thanks for sharing Chip! After looking at the photo of Mark on the front page I now have strobe envy :> We just returned from Utila and Roatan where I used a Nikon D100 in a Nexus housing and twin stobes - nothing compared to Mark's photos, but did manage a few good shots that we can use for a calendar.

you have alot of great shots there, congrats. It looks like you were in an aquarium with all the animal life you got next to !
