A detailed description of my traverse of the Great Range can be found here.
On Monday, August 5th, this humble pilgrim made the journey from Rooster Comb to Adirondack Loj by way of the Great Range. It was a cool, breezy, cloudless day, perfect for views from the "summit-temples" of the Great Range.
The pilgrimage to Marcy, the highest of the High (Peaks), led me from one mountaintop to another and gave me time to reflect upon, and enjoy, the beauty of the natural world. Twelve and a half hours after setting out, I emerged at the Loj in "good style", namely satisfied by the experience and no worse for wear. It was one of the best hikes of my life.
Sample Photos
Rooster Comb's shadow projected on Johns Brook valley.
Gothics and the "summit-temples" of the upper Great Range.
The highest of the High.
Eighth and final 4K peak of the day.
See all photos here (many summits = lots of selfies)
For number-crunchers, here's a spreadsheet with interval times and charts.
