Backcountry Conditions:
Snow Depth at Lake Colden: 35 inches
Snow Depth at 4,000 ft.: 3-4 feet
Surface Conditions: powder
Comments: Most everything is now skiable. Hiking trail to Marcy Dam may be rough in a few spots - use old trail from ADK Loj Campground. Avalanche Pass fully skiable. Only caution is some "shell ice" on the winter approach to Lake Colden from the register. No reports yet on the Marcy Trail, but it should be skiable despite Sunday's storm being less than predicted. Ice on Avalanche and Lake Colden now firm with no slush - just use caution near outlets and inlets. Skis or snowshoes now required for any travel in the High Peaks.
