After the rainy Summer we've all had, we caught maybe the best week of weather of the last couple of months.

The family had a great week at the cabin in Keene. Got a chance to do a 'whack of Owl's Head and explore some really tall cliffs. Barbara and Bookah were troopers and enjoyed it.
Also climbed Mt Arab, St Regis Mt, a loop over the Crows, and got to paddle our canoes, finally a chance to try them on Upper and Lower Cascade lakes and Chapel Pond.
Even got to spend part of the day at the new Wild Center outside of Tupper Lake on the only day with morning clouds. What a great job was done there.
We had an invitation to paddle Henderson Lake, but decided to get our paddling chops before we imposed on the person who invited us.

I'll put post some photos when we get all unpacked and I can upload them.

Nice! Is that the Owl's Head that is off trail from the back way to Giant ??

Now you are making me want to dust off that "Other" trail guide I've been meaning to read... :)

I presume that's the Owl's Head that is off Rt 73, if you're driving to Keene going from Lake Placid, it's that pointy little peak that you seem to be driving towards as you go down the steep hill after Chapel Pond... There is also an Owl's Head road that I think the trailhead is off of off Rt 73.

Nice pictures, looks a little windy in some of them! :)

Sabrina,

This is the Owl's head Jay mentioned. Right off of 73 above Keene and before the Cascade trailhead. Right opposite Brown Mt(continuation of Pitchoff Ridge).

Its a 20-30 min hike from route 73, but a neat little 'whack right out the door of our cabin. The woods are all open, but the summit is guarded by some interesting cliffs if you're off trail and coming from a different direction than route 73. Its a great short hike if you don't have lots of time or you're on the way to something.
The other Owls head is along the north trail to Giant or Green. And it too has a spectacular view from its top.

Speaking of 'The Other 54', the 46ers have asked us to do a slide presentation on the ADK100 for the Fall 46er meeting on 10/4.
