...via Air Line, Short Line, King Ravine, Gulfside, Valley Way
Date of Hike: Sunday 7/13
Trail Conditions: dry ascent, waterlogged descent.
Special Equipment Required: poles marginally useful to downright inconvenient on the ascent of King Ravine, where there are numerous boulders requiring free hands. Use a reservoir/tube for water, or at least stow your bottles in your pack if you don't want to lose them. Full raingear, jacket/pants/gaiters/hat, helpful on descent after the rain started... I like my feet like I like my martinis... dry. =)
Comments: my first time up King Ravine and the views were still well worth the trip, despite a soggy finish. We got to the King Ravine/Airline junction (5,000+') before we felt a drop. Thank you to Atticus and Daymond for good cheer in the face of adversity. Photos www.pbase.com/jonathantr.
