Trails: Beehive Trail, Bowl Trail Loop
Date of Hike: 04-14-2011
Parking/Access Road Notes: Park at Sand Beach Lot
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail
Comments: Always wanted to check this ladder trail out, glad I did. No snow left here, and it looked like only shaded areas in Acadia NP had patches of snow left. Mostly dry, at least where it counted. I was picturing something more radical, at worst you only have 10-15 foot stretch of near vertical ladder/ ledge combo at a time before getting to a decent sized flatter ledge to rest. Most unnerving parts were actually the 2 foot wide sideway ledges to cross with a hundred foot drop. Although a fall would be bad news, the trail is well designed and with care you should avoid that fate. Unless you freeze up with exposure this trail is worth a go! Would hike it first before bring younger children though.
