Hey,

I just realized I am missing a couple of 100 Highest Peaks. How many are there again?

Anyway, I still need to reach both East Kennebago and (Cupsuptic) Snow. I have driven past the latter a couple of times on trips out to the Porter Brook access for Boundary, White Cap and North Kennebago Divide. I seem to recall there was a problem with the bridge over the Kennebago some time back. Does anyone know of that bridge's status, as well as the rest of the road in? Has anyone tried an (the) alternate route yet this year? Anybody want to go Maine peakbagging?

I believe the bridge is gone. I would say you have several choices:

1) Alternate route using Burnt Mtn. Road. Some one did that about a week ago, see Trail Conditions report. Spencer did something similar last fall, search for his report. You will also pass a memorial for a plane wreck (??) on the way.

2) There is another crossing to get onto Wiggle Brook Road slightly upstream of where Wiggle brook enters into the Kennebago. You take a road along the east side of Little Kennebago Lake whose turnout is off Lincoln Pond Road about a half mile before the turn onto Canada Road. It's shown on DeLorme (map 28) as single dotted with a washout, but I believe it's been improved. I think Spencer also checed this out last year.

Bottom line: Spencer knows. :)

Have fun. Oh, and the Hundred Highest List has 94 peaks on it. :D

There are two routes from the East that we describe in our trip reports. One is via Burnt Mountain Road - the other is Via Little Kennebago. Driving the logging roads up in that area is as much fun as the hike! Keep your eyes open for moose and other wildlife.
