Great pics as always Dave.

I almost don't want to say this, how dare I question such a higher power???

But... in the second batch of pics, picture sl06 labelled "Carters and Wildcats" I think that's just the Wildcats (and the Kittens)

You are correct, I was processing a lot of photos and frankly wasn't paying much attention to the captions near the end. Fixed now.

I have three accounts with Webshots, and I really should just pay for the unlimited access. I'll be doing that eventually.

I talked with Goliath's owner about Brutus. I'm glad they got to meet. Anyone get any pictures of the encounter?

It's a Small World After All

Goliath is my buddy Mike's (SherpaMike) dog. Goliath (a.k.a. The G-Man) is an incredibly resilient doofus of a St. Bernard.

Mike told me today that he met a few VFTT'ers along the trail. He couldn't remember who everyone was, but he remembered Brutus!!! Goliath has been following in Brutus' tracks for a while, as I've been sharing Brutus' trail info with Mike.

Various members of my crew have travelled with Goliath to Moosilauke, Zealand, The Bonds, and Carrigain, as well as numerous local trips. My runt of a black lab loves to torment Goliath. The big guy just doesn't know what to do with the pushy little bugger!

I've always gotten such a kick of of Goliath -- adults of my generation assume he's Cujo and run in fear. Every kid thinks of him as Beethoven and run up to greet him. Poor dog! He doesn't know what to think. And in dog years, he's just graduating from puppy hood and becoming the uber-trail dog he is destined to be.

There have been a number of trips where my dogs have stayed home due to their physical limitations, so Goliath is way ahead on the peaks -- he has 9 left. And he's thru the worst, including bagging Whiteface on the Blueberry Ledge trail last week.

The last peak I did with Mike & the G-Man was Carrigain...picture to follow....

Periwinkle, Mike and I talked about your lab and golden and their adventures hiking. We talked about Brutus, and lo and behold, he runs into him (and Kevin) later that day.

BTW, Goliath is a leaner. First, he sits on your foot, then he starts leaning into you until you find yourself supporting 120 lbs of canine fury. Or is that furry. Lovable pooch, and his bark really carries up there.

There were several Cujo and Beethoven comments on the summit of Jefferson, just as Mike predicted.

My friend Walter's yellow lab Huckleberry bagged his first NH 4, Garfield, with us on Sunday; Huck seemed to enjoy scrambling around the summit. Sorry, no pics (yet).

When will Jackson be going for South Kinsman?

He must have really liked you, Dave. He only sits on the feet of those he trusts will give him a good scratching! Then he leans right into it.

If The G-Man barked, you must have been talking too long (as far as Goliath was concerned). He's definitely got his own agenda -- if he's tired, he'll flop down content to wait for hours. If he's ready to trek, he woofs until you give up and go in fustration just to shut him up! Funny dog.

Thanks for being kind to The G-Man. He doesn't usually get a lot of love on the trail from adults (the Cujo thing). It's not like hiking with my retrievers.

And I'm glad you had a great day out in the Presis!

I was on the summit of Adams when I heard the bark, from somewhere below T-Storm Junction. He never barked at me (dogs rarely do), he's really just a big love sponge, with a little slobber.
