i'm in, if it isn't too late to get it back - - - - - remember... the catskill 3500 are far smaller than the 46ers (5000+ compared to 1400) and the catskill club is a lot more "social" (is that the word i'm looking for) than the 46ers - - i was really more concerned about the poor souls waiting so long to hear anything (you start wondering if your stuff got lost in the mail after a few months) - but it would be nice to have more of a club instead of "good for you, congratulations" and never hearing from them again. at least an announcement of how many have finished every year and the date of the dinner would be nice - - also i think it would be nice to have the option of getting your 111/115 certificate at the dinner of your choice (n.y. 46ers, 35ers or n.h. AMC 48/67/top100ers) if those other organizations would have us at thier dinner.

>>achievement doesn't = a patch <<
did you get a high school ring? a symbol of acheivement.

I think this is a great idea of Ken's despite the fact that I'm not nearly at 115 (heck, I spend so much time in the Catskills I'm still finishing up my 46), but I do have every intention of completing in two or three years. It goes against the grain to see what's arguably the premier hiking achievement in the NE (not counting winters here) possibly being subsumed by an organization that really doesn't give a fig about it.

For all the objection to this change I thought for certain there'd be some facts in this thread other than that the address has changed and some people don't like the AMC. I would hope that such a fine upstanding group of hikers would be sufficiently open minded, objective and rational enough to ask, "Why the change?" before ranting about whether a committee affiliated with the AMC should manage it, how long it takes to get a patch (hey, it doesn't matter ... even with the patch you can't kick this habit), or whether Gene Daniel has enough time to do this.

I've admired the 4000 Footer Committee for the way they've managed the lists, the way they conducted the awards and the fact the a handful of people volunteer a labor of love doing something that obviously means a lot to some of us. Like many people, I've got my differences with the AMC (little do they realize it) but one thing I don't think anyone can fault them on is incompetence so I don't understand the objection to their affiliated involvement, at least until I heard the reason the 4000 Footer Committee has taken this over.

I do vaguely recall that the 4000 Footer Committee could already award the NE 111 certificate to those who satisfied its 4000 footer requirements and provided documentation of ADK 46er achievement and something about doing Slide and Hunter. Is this correct and is it possible that the address change is filling a need and not a palace coup of the List?

I'm sure everyone is appreciative of Ken's offer to step up and volunteer. I too am sorry Priscilla is passing the torch.
Gene is great guy and encyclopedia of mountain knowledge, and his willingness, with others, to take on the NE111 ( and if I'm correct, its still the called the 111 not the 115 ) is a far better alternative to it being absorbed by the AMC.
I realize no one was criticizing Gene, but it start looking like damning with faint praise.

>>but it start looking like damning with faint praise.<<
only that he is into so many things that it takes a long time for anything to happen

>>"Why the change?"<<
because priscilla robertson retired from the duties

>>at least until I heard the reason the 4000 Footer Committee has taken this over<<
because priscilla robertson retired from the duties and handed it over to them

only now, since it was handed over to them, it was priscilla before May 2004

I sent off my 111er report earlier this week, and today, September 18, 2004, I received in the mail a post card from Priscilla Robertson which states that she is no longer on the 111 Committee, and she has forwarded my application to

Eugene Daniell III
42 Eastman Street
Concord, NH 03301-5409

Given all this discussion, does anyone know if the address of the 4000 Footer Club is still the same:

AMC 4000 Footer Committee
c/o AMC
5 Joy St.
Boston, MA 02108

??

This is a permanent address, as the Club will foreward mail to the current Corresponding Secretary. It is the one printed in the White Mountain Guide as people often use very old copies of the guide.

And I should have asked this before: to whom do we make out the check for the 111'ers? It used to be "Northeast 111ers", is that still valid?

send all 4000 footer correspondence (new hampshire 48, new england 67 & northeast 111) to:

Eugene Daniell III
42 Eastman Street
Concord, NH 03301-5409

put them all in the same envelope since first gene has to check your 48, then the 19 that will make it 67 and then the 111er - if they are in seperate envelopes they will not be together and it will take him even longer - good luck on your wait for processing.

Wow. I met hikethe115 Friday atop Moosilauke, and she told me that my simple missive had really taken off. A lot of sturm und drang, as Susan would say.

Anyway, one point I wanted to mention: I don't recall the Forty-Sixers sending me a patch for completing the list. The way I remember it, after I sent in my final report, I was sent a form listing items I could order for myself if I so desired. Among the items (t-shirts, stickers, tie tacks...) was the patch.

I can't recall how long it took me to get my AMC 4000 patch.

Mohamed, here's the link to the 4000-Footer Committee's Web site:

http://www.amc4000footer.org/

Click on the 111er link, and it takes you here:

http://www.amc4000footer.org/ne111.htm

And it still has Ms. Robertson's address.

I don't remember seeing anything on the 111er application about any fee to include, so I didn't write any check. Does this mean I'll be waiting forever to get my patch?

I still need to get off my New England Fours application, maybe I can just send in two checks? Really confuse things.

when i finished it was $8 just like the new hampshire & new england 4000

right - they get the "congratulations" letter to you in a couple weeks and then you buy the patches, belt buckle, hats, etc. (usually another week or so) - AMC 4000, 111er & catskills include one patch with the initial fee.

All is well...

Remember this thread? I had forgotten about it until I was searching online for a list of 111ers (which I never found).

Anyway, I can happily say that last year when I finished the 111 (on Allen) I quickly received my 46er letter of congratulations which I sent to Mike Dickerman with the 111 application and within 1 week received my acceptance/congratulatory letter and some patches I had ordered.

I had to wait until last month to receive the actual Certificate, but that is to be expected... just like I had to wait for the 46er Banquet last week for my 46er Certificate.

Therefore, rest assured, that as long as Mike Dickerman is running the 111er program, you will not be delayed in receiving recognition. All appears to be well.

I got a list of those that finished in 2005: 23, 3 of them in winter. I was looking for a list of all finishers, but I think I'll just write Mike and request one.

Note: There was no fee for membership. I just paid $3.00 each for some patches.

back when priscilla robertson was running the show (pre priscilla's retirement and AMC 4000 footer club takeover) when you got your certificate at the dinner (or in the mail if you werent at the dinner) you got the current roster of all 111ers along with it (without having to ask)...

Yes that is how I got mine several years ago. So how many 111ers are there now?

not sure but it should be over 500 by now - maineguy should know since he has a list (but he didn't say if that list had numbers on it) but he should at least know his own number...
