Long routine route up trail to Algonquin, over to Iroquois down to Lake Colden and out past Avalanche Lake
Over night rain left the trail wet. It was very muddy from the Loj to the junction diverging toward Marcy vs Algonquin. Even with good trail shoes, spots were as slippery as being barefoot on a wet kitchen floor. (Guess this keeps folks in sneakers from getting to far). Ascent from Junction to Algonquin lovely and routine. Patches of mud as expected but no serious hindernce. Cols on the way to Iroquois were muddier than usual and serious root hopping required if shoes less that 8inches. Descent to Colden fine, as was the return to Marcy dam. Mud as noted earlier somewhat improved, but still bad nea the loj.
Equipment: waterproof shoes, windgear
Map and pics (2nd part of)
