From ADK Lodge by way of Wright Junction.
The trail was nicely packed snow to timber line but it did flurry all day so a tiny bit of trail breaking was required. The only real obstacle was the good sized step after McIntyre Falls, which offers a natural root hand hold on the right. The summit was ice, shallow snow, and rock but MSRs worked very well. The summit was shrouded in cloud and visibility was around 40 yards. Winds were strong but not extraordinary. I wasn’t sure if I was on the summit until I found the survey marker. Fortunately the cairns are piled 3-4 feet high and visible through the mist. It was a solitary hike until ½ mile from the top and then two hikers passed, and then another 6-7 passed. Unlike summer, no one was picnicking on the summit.
Equipment: MSRs to Algonquin summit. I carried crampons but on this particular day they were optional.
Comments: Start ADK Lodge 8am – Wright Junction 10:51am – Summit 11:21am
