Trail Conditions: Packed snow until tree line reached, then icy crust atop snow as we ascended and descended Algonquin. The cols between Algonquin-Boundary and Boundary-Iroquois were firm consolidated snow (no spruce traps!) but no defined trail--we headed straight for the cairns which were occasionally visible (due to clouds) on the mountains ahead of us. A little wind on the summits. Temp 40 degrees. Overcast.
Special Equipment: Snowshoes with good ice traction (my MSR Denali's worked fine). Crampons and ice axe not necessary at all on this day.
Comments: Wonderful winter conditions--weather was great, trail couldn't have been much better. The only thing we were missing was the view!!
