Hi my friends & enemy.

Saturday morning We have a plan to join the group with the goal Allen.

Unfortunately when We start from the base camp We know We will be a little bit in late, usualy We need 75 minutes from L.P. to Allen parking.... and We have only 65 minutes in from us.

All the time, Junior tell me "let's go push: more pressure in the mushrom..."(accelorator !) :D

Alain: "Junior You need to know is better to arrive in late to arrive in flake!!!

When We turn in the exit 29, the road was covered by snow and ice We need to drive slowly. In the Tahawus road it is in snowy road condition, No very far of the parking at the end of a curve We saw one car made a early parking (out side of road) We ask if He need help.

We help this man to showelling and push is Jeep but We need other help. Fortunately a other 4 weels drive car coming with a rope and We are able to push the Jeep in a better position. The driver is a man with the same goal Allen.

The time to prepare cloth and gear and it is 15 minutes after 7, the meeting was at six but usualy all group need few time to start...

In the register 9 peoples signed, + the Jeep man and me We will be 11 to this epopee.
Junior tell me " it is less of one mille broken trail by people, can You reserve me the last mille?"

We passed the Jeep man few time after, catch the first people of the leader group in the blowdown place after the last bridge, The second not very far after. A couple of minutes later Junior tell me "He the yellow trail marker is on the left and the snowshoes tracks in the right!!"

Junior the mountain is in the right side it is not a big mistake.

Just in the gravel pit We catch Snow White (IngA) and her 7 little peoples,
one of them is Peter the gps man from Emmons, the time to shake hand every body, drink few water and I restart in head, after 2,000 steps, I go out of the trail, behind me Snow White, Peter and a other man. Inge take the head We take the 4th position. When Inge need to stop because She was to warm, Junior make offer " Do You need help to remove your cloth?" Junior You will be always a hot rabbit!!!

The last trail marker behind us when We arrive in the public land, We need to stay little bite allert to stay in the path. We return in the pole position and We lose the path and know it is in the left side, but We can see the mountain in front in right. The bush hike was not to difficult and We refind the path at the first branch Skylight brook. Croos the second was not a trouble Junior put is long ear in the ice and guide me.

From this place it always easy to stay in the path, in left side of the brook and few time after the small fall, directly in the brook.
At the small fall We find the usual chrimas tree (tree with a reserved branh for my pack) drink few water eat 6 squares (half chocolat bare) from this place We know it will be around 2,800 steps to catch the top.
Junior ask me "You promise the last mille is for me, please remove the carabiner."

He jump in the path and guide me with appropriate tracks in the brook or outside when We have a chance to fall in the water. Before the slide He use the switchback technique to keep the same speed in the deep snow, We stay in the slide and do not use the usual path in the left. Over the slide We are more slow the narrow path do not permit the same technique.

Finaly We arrive in the top after 3,00 steps, poor visibility, short drink and We start to go down, Juniior tell me: " don't stay in the up track it will be better for the people go up!!!" ;) good boy.

Gradualy We meet aech people in the group, all have a smile :) in the face with the certainly goal not very far!!!

When We arrive near the bridge We return by the usual path to stay in good relation with the club people.

Yes I know it is the Junior sight of this day and everybody in the group have a different story from this nice day...

Thank You everybody for your help and your smile.

After the real Allen warmup, with a forecast for a very warm day, We take the decision it will be not the best day to broken a trail. We know We will have great chance to stay in snowshoes tracks for Haystack-Basin-Saddleback, a group had reserved a cabin for 2 nights with the same goal the january 5.

Fortunately We meet a pretty woman member of this group and She tell us "the trail is broken for all HaBaSa, the icy condition was not to bad in Saddleback slide, boot the first part and crampons for the second part."

Few time after We meet Alister and He confirm the information.

With this information We hike with a light heart... the snow condition is less of one inch new snow but very warm and quickly the snow change in wet snow!
After Slant Rock lean to the now was 2' or 3 inch and part time the wind blowind the yesterday tracks. The base was perfect hard and it was easy to stay in the old snowshoes tracks but the wet snow change my light snowshoes in heavy. I neet many time to hit them with my ski pole.

Easy snowshoesing in Little Haystack and Haystack, Windy but not cool, perfect to dry my cloth.
Fast down in very wet condition the snow in the trees is a slush under a blue sky and the trees tears falling in us.

Slow up in Basin and fast down in the other side under the same condition. Need to remove snowshoes. put on my windstopper jacket before the slide. We strat with only boots ans put crmpons on and use ice axe for a small part. We are happy to arrive in the Saddleback summit, We know it always go down from this place.

We signed out after 8 hours 50 minutes wet but happy, We give a ride at 2 hikers from the garden parking to the Marcy airfield and drive to the base camp.

Thank You for each member of the group to broken trail, We appreciated.

A other great day but We feel litle bite tire after this 2 days. with the warm temperature forecast We will take a break, anyway the brook will be little biter difficut to cross before the winter come back.

Pinpin Junior.

Another great day in the ADKs. It was very good to meet you Alain - now I can put the face together with the legend. And even better got to see the legend in action (at least for the seconds I saw you fly by in either direction). We were speculating when we returned to the car that you were probably already in the hot tub at home. :D
