Been dreading this hike for some time and avoided it as long as I can... but in the end it was quite nice so procrastination doesn't pay off. First half is on old gravel roads and a slightly overgrown state trail. Ford of the Opalescent river was well marked - water only as high as my shins. Some mud once on the herd path but easy to negotiate through most of it. The climb up Allen brook is steep and sometimes slippery but slow careful progress gets it done. Some nice views along the slide and at the summit. The walk out was pretty hot given the day but cooled off when recrossing the brooks. Back to the car by 3 so not even a long day as it turns out.
