Whats the AMC MM thread I've seen referenced a couple of times recently? Is it the AMC Board ? I used to go there a couple of years ago and then stopped. Is it now defunct?

It was a forum called mountain and molehills . It is no longer active but the AMC bulletin board is:

Mountains and Molehills
The AMC has decided to close the Mountains & Molehills bulletin board. The board was originally envisioned as a way for members to discuss issues related to the Northeast outdoors. While most participants on the board were responsible and respected its original intent and policies, it increasingly has included partisan political discussion as well as a number of offensive posts and inappropriate personal attacks. As a non-partisan, 501(c)(3) organization that depends on member and donor support, this type of discussion on our core website is inappropriate. The benefit of this forum for members has been increasingly outweighed by the amount of staff time required to monitor the board.
We will closely monitor the remaining boards to ensure these remain within our guidelines.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause the majority of participants who tried to use this board appropriately.
