There was (is?) a metal sign on the walkway to Glen Ellis Falls with erroneous text (ex., the last glaciation was over 30,000 years ago and the falls drop into a cirque). A couple of us asked the USFS if we might have that metal sign as a memento in return for providing correct information for the new sign, should there be a new sign, in the reconstruction.I've often wondered if the NH USFS has ever considered having metal signs like some areas in the West? Am thinking especially of Mt Shasta. These signs are steel plates with laser-cut lettering. Quite attractive and more than capable of withstanding the battering of trekking poles unlike the wooden signs in the East.
