Anyone been on the Ammo trail recently? I've never done it and wondering what the conditions might be like tomorrow ( ice, river crossings, etc. ). Thinking of going up Ammo and down Jewell.

This has been an unusually cold spring and you're likely to see some snow and ice above Gem Pool where it gets steeper. I've hiked it in April and barebooted it but there was one ledge where I wished I had crampons. I went down Jewell that day. If we get the Nor-Easter this weekend this could be a tough hike. After a heavy rain there is one place in particular that can be difficult to get through. Be careful up there.

We hiked up/down the Jewell Trail last weekend (see trail conditions report) and met some hikers on Washington who had come up the Ammo Trail. They said it was icy and that they had worn crampons a great deal of the way.
