About a inch of snow at the start. Purchased a pair of Kahtoola micro spikes and these things were amazing! They are a little more agressive then the Yak trax. I would recommend these when there is less then 8" of snow. We used poles. Great view but it was really windy. There was about 8" near the top. Another great day in the ADKS!!!!!!
