Ampersand from the trailhead on Rt 3, SW of Saranac Lake.
The sign at the edge of the highway across from the parking area is missing, but the sign post is still standing.
Trail conditions were beautiful, boardwalk included, until the 40 minutes of rain, then normal wet. The boulder staircases were very impressive on the way up, almost like skiing moguls on the way down (with poles). The person at the summit before me was there in the rain and saw nothing, but I lucked out and got sunshine that dried out the rock and a breeze that kept the flies away. The Sewards, the Sawtooth range, and the MacIntyres all had tops in dark, dark clouds (see the post about Algonquin below!).
Two benchmarks plus a commemorative plaque! A nice morning.
