The first person to climb Mt. Everest ten times without oxygen has just passed away.

Sherpas do not live easy lives, and Rita suffered financially later in his life, but gosh, to stand on Everest ten times, not to mention all the other summits. Wow!

Yes, he was an amazing human being. The obit I read mentioned that some of his health issued latter in life might be due to brain damage from lack of OX on Everest and all the other 8000 meter peaks he climbed. A similar story applies to Messner.

Good article. Thanks for posting. It's says:

... only one of the 13 climbers (a professional) returned with a normal brain scan.

I assume the subjects used supplemental OX like most Everest expeditions do these days. Apparently that does not prevent neural changes to the brain.

One expects potential brain damage over 8k meters. But not at Mt Blanc's altitude!
