I hiked on Ragged Mountain today from Proctor Academy. My goal was to get to The Bulkhead. My navigation method was to pre-waypoint the Bulkhead , then to use whichever trails or bushwhacks got me there (whenever a trail seemed to be going the wrong way, I started bushwhacking.) Being my first time at Ragged, I was impressed by the number of trails/old roads throughout, as well as the almost complete lack of trail signs. (I took a direct route to The Bulkhead, so therefore I was not on the Sunapee Ragged Kearsarge Greenway for very long.)

Do any of the "usual suspects" ;) or others have or know about a good trail map of the trails on the south side of Ragged? The official SRKG map only shows that one trail. There is a student-made Proctor Academy map that is not that useful.

Thanks

Hah - your observations are correct - there are no detailed maps (that I've found anyway) of the south side of Ragged showing all the trails (old/new/etc). There are a plethora of logging roads, old trails, ski trails, etc, in there. I've gotten pretty lost in there and then found old trail blazes that then got obliterated in logging cuts which I've found to be massive. My advice is to consider anything on that side to be a bushwhack!!!!

The SRKG map is helpful but I've still gotten lost. NOTE: the Balanced Rock and Bulkhead Trails are not shown either.

Thanks. I waypointed several trail junctions and redlined my personal map with them; so I already know more than I did before the trip. I suppose that's the only way to learn about a mountain like this that has poor documentation. It's also amazing what a "large" small mountain area this is.
