Battell trail up Abe was well packed. A little more drifted in on the LT but still easy to follow. Couldn't see tracks headed from the summit to Ellen and my partner wasn't up to continuing that way but the top was pretty wind packed. We did this hike on Wednesday 2/21.

I knew we shoulda taken a left at Albuquerque...

Cath, Jon, and I did Ap Gap to Lincoln on Thursday, but ran short of time and had to bail down the ski slopes of Lincoln. The trail over to Abe looked deliciously deep and hidden. Lots and lots of yellow ribbons placed by some unfortunate soul at 5 to 10 foot intervals in the section between Ellen and Lincoln.

We ran into the ski patrol weenies at one of the lift lines before Lincoln, who after spying our sleds, predictably attempted to run the interrogation treatment on us. "Where are you going down?" Before answering, we looked at each other with a slightly bemused expression, and offered "Lincoln Gap" as our destination with a wry smile. They "didn't want to have to worry about us" was the heroic line. Comforting! I had no idea that the ski patrol owned the entire LT and any hikers on it!

Finally, Cath flashed her "Posthole Police" badge at them with a dramatic pony-tail toss, which pretty much shut them up. Works every time!

After arriving at the summit of Lincoln as the alpenglow kissed Mansfield behind us, we must have taken a "wrong turn", being clueless hiker types completely out of their element, and before you know it, we were headed down the "trail to Lincoln Gap", which was amazingly wide and had all these funny lines in it. They even renamed the LT in this section "The Jester", which was somehow appropriate as we were laughing our a**es off the whole way down.

We exited our sleds at "Lincoln Gap", which I guess is actually some kinda ski destination, and not Lincoln Gap at all. DANG! But then, lo and behold, one of our cars somehow appeared in the parking lot! Will wonders never cease?

Tim, I'm shocked that such experienced hikers had so much trouble finding the trail to Lincoln Gap!

Sounds like the ridge walk will make for a pleasantly challenging day. As for the "officials", let's just say that a couple of us have a bit of experience in dealing with officials, so that shouldn't be a problem. Besides, we don't have sleds.

Thanks, everyone, for the info. Just what I needed. Perhaps not quite what I WANTED, though! :D
