Pal of mine is interested in knowing what conditions are like up there for a bid on the holiday weekend. Any snow remaining? All info from VT Rt. 9 north to the Stratton / Kelly Stand Road appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Matt

Nearby conditions

Well, since no one seems to have chimed in on this I'll offer info about nearby peaks. Was on Dorset(3770') the first Saturday in May and there was some snow/ice on the trail near the top, but not enough to cause too much trouble. Didn't use snow shoes or traction. So, if you're interested in snow conditions, I don't think you'll have any problems with that.

Just as an aside, you can also do a really nice loop in that area(therefore not needing a car spot). Hike in from Rte 9 on the LT to the Goddard Shelter (a favorite shelter of mine) then take the West Ridge Trail (blue blazed) back through lovely open woods, flanking the side of West Glastenbury, over Bald Mountain and down into Woodford Hollow, out the dirt road and then it's a one mile road walk back to the LT trail head parking on Rte 9.

Watch out for ghosts. ;)

Also have second week in May conditions for area

I was on the north face and summit of Mt. Snow (actually Pisgah if the truth be told) on Sat. May 10. I did happen to look in the direction of Glastenbury as well. I think it's a pretty safe bet that you won't see any snow on the trails even up high. The route ought to be pretty dry as well since the area hasn't had much rain this spring.

Any snow conditions on Mt. Snow were largely the remnants of man-made. There were occasional patches of natural but by now I'm betting you'd really have to work hard to find any left even on northern shady aspects at the highest elevations.

In a particularly shady spot I noticed one single snow remnant on the road in. It must have been what was left of a bank made by the plow. Otherwise there was nothing down low.

Hope this helps

Thanks, this is the loop I was looking at.

At the end of April the Strat/Arl rd was passable only to the Stratton pd trailhead on the Stratton side.Needed snowshoes in 2 areas only ,I'm sure its dry now.The woods near the jar on N Glastonbury had 15" or so but that's gotta be gone by now.The roads probably in good shape now.

I hiked the LT/AT to Glastenbury and West Ridge trail to Bald Mountain yesterday. Trail is in great shape.
