On the solstice day eight days ago, I ascended Mt. Eisenhower up the Edmands-Loop route, descending to the southwest and looping back to Edmands on the Crawford Path. May have been my favorite views in the Whites yet - what a gorgeous mountain on a beautiful day.
But I digress. I write to raise a question: has anyone taken the old Mt. Pleasant Trail up Eisenhower from the stone gate at about 3975'? Having read about in in Smith and Dickerman's 4000-Footers book, it caught my eye, and it appear the old path, though unused, is still there. Wondered if anyone's taken that on lately? Have people not done so because of concern for the fragile alpine vegetation up high, above the scrub? Just wondered.
For now, I'm fully occupied going up the 4Ks via the standard routes, but my mind wanders further as I trek - I love old routes and enjoy contemplating challenges.
Here's a picture of the gate with the old trail at right:
And here's a link to my photo album from the hike: https://www.facebook.com/Arkie.in.CT/media_set?set=a.10201578102677361.1073741831.1321623751&type=3
