Ashokan High Point Loop, Catskills

Anybody been up there recently??
I'm interested in renting snowshoes for tommorrow and doing the loop--and
wondering about trail conditions.

With the current temps this week, might not really need snowshoes! But I haven't been in the catskills since New Year's Day and I barebooted to the summit of Doubletop then.

Well, as you probably saw, no TC's since 11/2005. I was up there last summer and saw a bear! It's a nice hike.

If you want, I might be able to loan you a pair of MSRs. PM me...

Its 40 something and raining hard in the NW Cats right now, you might be better off with flippers by tommorrow. Any thing hard packed is getting very icy, unbroken snow is really soft and mushy.

Darn

I was worried about this rain tonite.
I was in Minnewaska sunday and there was about 10 inches of hardpack.
Maybe I'll need to reschedule this outing.

Hold the flippers, get out the sunscreen. The rain took off alot of snow, but todays high temps and sunshine really browned and muddied up the area around Hunter. Snow, rain, or sunshine for this weekend.
