Not the way that I read Old Eric’s post, in which he seems to place the AMC huts, Cog, and AR on a par for concentrating and disposing of human waste in the alpine.
He clearly states that without the Cog flowers would be growing in place of the tracks, hence the Cog is a bad thing. While he sings the praise of the AMCs capacity to consolidate human waste. You really can't see that in his post?

I read that Old Eric was implying that without the Cog and AR concentrating human waste at the summit, the waste would be all over the summit cone, which would impact the alpine vegetation in a negative way, like if the huts were not there to concentrate and remove human waste. But it appears that the post has been removed, so unless Old Eric provides more specifics, we are stuck with different interpretations.

Before I wade in to something too deep for my boots, let me repeat a universally known truth: When you gotta go, you gotta go.
Actually as a day hiker I wait until the next available "rest stop". These are much more frequent in the Adirondacks than the Whites, and it can be annoying when you get to the bottom of the Monadnock Old Toll Road and find that the portajohn rest stop has been removed for the season, but the gas station is not that far away and I can dispose of solids and fill up on fluids there. While I carry TP etc. with me, I do not believe I have ever used it in the woods other than at and in a privy. Whether this record and attitude can be maintained on the 18 mile round trip hike to Mt Allen remains to be seen. I am pretty sure that there are rest stops near Redfield and Cliff, and I was OK on Seymour, Donaldson and Emmons so Seward should also be OK. And that would complete the NE 115.

OldEric's post is still there in "section 2" of this thread. A relative long way back.

He doesn't say that at all. The Cog is on the other side of the mountain from the alpine garden and the quotes around flowers is a clear reference to toilet paper.

You have grossly misinterpreted his words. Is that intentional?
