1/9/09 Lincoln woods to Franconia Brook Trail
Trail Conditions: used snowshoes all day. Lincoln woods mostly packed powder but snowshoes were helpful. Franconia Brook 5-6 inches of fresh powder over some barely visible indentations. Pretty much breaking trail. Got about 3/4 mile up trail when my hiking partner fell through the ice while trying to cross an un -named brook. He left about a 5 foot hole in the ice. He went in up to his knees but managed to step up on a rock and then I pulled his pole and got him out. that was the end of our trip as he just changed into dry socks and we headed back out.
Snowshoes essential.
Very nice snowshoe, wish we could have gone furthur. hopefully we can try again next Friday. Cinder, Nancy & Joe
