While at Camel's Hump this weekend, some folks asked us if we knew where the backcountry ski "area" was -- something about when you can see the cliffs, look to your left. I never saw anything *I* would be comfortable skiing, although it is largely open woods with mostly birch. It was not as open as the Fire Warden's / former Mount Hale trail.

It's too late, obviously, to get back to them, but perhaps they are readers...

You can certainly ski the Monroe trail, and there's lots of good skiing on the opposite side as well. But there is a maintained trail network to the north and west of the mountain -- I've never skied on those trail.

Thanks, Dave. My thought was the Monroe Trail was quite ski-able. This person specifically inquired about some through-the-woods skiing beneath the cliffs. I wonder if he should have been coming up the Burrow's Trail instead?

i hiked the burrows trail on friday 10/31 and thought to myself that it would be a wonderful trail to ski or snowboard down. wide enough to get some turns in for sure and a pretty easy hike to the summit.

Well, maybe he's reading this. He definitely had the look of someone who was not their to hike the Hump but to scout out some rumored backcountry ski locale.

Now I know for next time anyway.
