Trail: Baldface Circle Trail (Counterclockwise)
Mountains: South Baldface, North Baldface
Date: May 14, 2008
Trail Conditions: Ideal hiking to South summit (3570 ft). The very steep ledges above the shelter were dry and snow-free. In the col between South and North summits, a few patches of snow less than 1 foot deep presented no problem since they were on flat trail. North summit (3610 ft) clear and dry. Upon descending the northside of North summit, the patches of snow got deeper (over 1 foot) and trickier since they were on steep descents, but they were still quite passable with a bit of care. At lower elevations, snow was replaced by mud or standing water for brief and avoidable stretches. Brook crossing was fine. About 10 spider webs across the trail and one blood-sucking mosquito.
Equipment: Summer gear. Footwear with good grip for steep ledges.
Comments: This is essentially a summer-hike at this point. There's only a little snow in the shady spots of the north-facing slope which just adds 10 minutes to the whole loop.
