baldface knob, hiked 9 4. used slippery brook trail. 2500 ft elevation gain. 3 1/2 hours up at a gradual pace. a few bugs but no big deal. all brook crossings are ok with boots on. this is a real nice hike going through a wide variation of forest types as elevations change. top of knob is loaded with a big variety of alpine plants. even found some late blueberries that were great. enjoyed a 1 hour lunch at top while taking in the 360 views. views to the south and east were 40 miles plus. on the way up we came across a bear on the trail about 40 yards away. a nice treat for us. stayed overnight at cold river camps and wanted to give a big thank you to the cru and volunteers. great people and great chow.
