Parked a vehicle on Slippery Brook Rd in Bartlett early; got a ride over to Baldface Circle trailhead (thanks Todd and Ross!!) plenty of parking early..
Baldface Circle Trail (south) in good shape no issues; ledges still had some tricky spots though very dry...saw two bear dogs with collars and tracking devices near the shelter, looking very sad( bear dog training season in effect, have seen that a few times in the Evans Notch area)...
Bald Knob Trail: fine
Slippery Brook Trail: great up high with nice spongy, softwood area footbed, then turns into a somewhat overgrown logging road; but trail is easy to follow..then comes out on grassy logging road which then turns into gravel logging road, so good time can be made;
Mountain Pond Loop: quite a few different footbed conditions, mud, slippery rocks, roots and spruce/fir needle carpet..large bear prints and scat and a recently dug up ant hill leads one to believe 13 Falls is not the only place with bear this year!! 2nd time there, appreciate it more this time nice views..
Slippery Brook Rd back to spotted vehicle: gravel road, saw only two wash outs...heard the repair will be completed and the road open in 2015...
Thanks to nephews for transport to Baldface Circle trailhead after we spotted vehicle on Slippery Brook Rd and met them in Gorham...great views once above treeline and we parted ways at Bald Knob/Baldface Circle jct.; they completed the circle...once at Slippery Brook/Bald Knob jct it was all downhill and we made good time getting back...would have been even an earlier day if we had not enjoyed the company and views once above treeline....the lights are ever turning red!!!!!
