My father is looking to climb "That mountain you can see to the west of Kezar Lake." I told him it was Baldface, and he wants to stay at the shelter on S. Baldface.

My question is about the water source...Has anyone been by there recently and seen the source (spring?) Is it dry or actually there? I read it is unreliable this is why I ask. Thanks in advance...

I wasn't sure whether I should post but since you haven't received any other replies, I figured I'd give it a shot. I was at the shelter on July 31st. Didn't stay there; was just passing through. There was a galvanized pail in the shelter and about 50 to 100 feet directly behind the shelter there was a water source. It wasn't running and didn't look too appetizing. I have no idea as to whether or not it was the spring mentioned in the WMG but it didn't look anything like the spring at the Liberty Spring or Guyot site.

The hike to the shelter was the easiest part of the loop. I'd pack extra water to be safe. In the shelter itself, there was a sign warning of Bear and rodent activity. Bring a rope to hang your food to be safe.

The loop itself was awesome. I hope you have a great time.

We were there on Aug 7 (Trip Report ). When we passed the shelter we met a couple of guys who were looking for water - they search all around and didn't find anything. I would not plan on finding water -take all you need.
