Balsam Lake 5/22 - Always a treat!

Just a quick report.

Trails in good shape.

Lean-to in good shape.

Tower and Cabin in good shape.

Paula, someone must have removed all the garbage, if so :tup:

We fixed the picnic table and a rotten step, thanks to Chris for his help! :tup:

Thanks to Cindy and Brian for fixing the wire mesh on the tower! :tup:

Almost no bugs, but it was a very windy day.

Nettles have been killed back by the previous frosts! Yippee!!

We saw a Myrtle Warbler near the top.

2 amazing wildlife sightings. A newborn fawn, just a few feet off the trail, and a Junco nest, with 2 of the tiniest birds we'd ever seen. They were still in the egg on the way up, but hatched out on the way down.

We also saw this young-in at the summit, Nora, Pugdy Groundhog's daughter.

Great TR. Saw a junco nest on South Sherrill last week, and we flushed a grouse on a whack on Plattekill today. 7 eggs in the nest.
Flushed a woodcock from a next 2 weeks ago, 4 eggs.
