My 2nd spring hike and i'm still snowshoeing!..When can i put these away?...Hiked with the cat 35 club, 29 degrees in the am and 59 when we got back!..Easiest hike so far for me, because as a group we took it easy, one person felt ill and the leader (Laurie) helped him back. I hiked with Art, Michael, and Diana...Art i think is 82 and strong!..No more complaints from me. The view was wonderful..I discovered that their aren't any signs with the names of the mtns on the summits..I thought there are cannisters or signs?..At the 3000 level we put the shoes on. Dipped my head into the stream and cooled off on the way down. Went to the dinner and people watched and listened to their stories, very interesting.

Hey David, nice to meet you at the dinner in kingston. All of the trailed peaks do not have canisters but MOST of the trailless peaks have them. Those that do not (like Graham, since it's on private property) are marked on the catskills 3500 tally sheet. Table mtn has the brackets of what used to be the canister but the canister is no more. Table, however, does have a family of 4 really short snow people, complete with stick arms and a happy demeanor. I wonder where did they come from and if they are prepared to stay the night? They were there when we arrived and were still there when we left the summit yesterday.. Hmmm... ;) :D

Anyway, hope to hike with you someday or other!

hey david, i know what you're talking about!me and my daughter were up on indian head on saturday.didn't bring the shoes but wished we did on the higher elevations after seeing some 2-3ft. deep postholes. what a great day. sorry i missed the dinner too, maybe next year. have to catch up with you on some treks soon. tony

Hey Tony, A group of us went and did Indian Head, Twin, and Sugarloaf on Saturday too. You might of seen our cars at Prediger, assuming you did Indian head from there? I think we all have VFTT stickers on them. I know I do.. We left around 7:30ish though and went over to Mink Hollow Road. Ed is going to do a trip report then.

I hear ya on the snow up there. It was bad between the Twin peaks and on Sugarload. Indian Head wasn't too bad cause we got there fairly early.

Surprisingly enough, Peek and Table were a lot better, but then Table is fairly tree covered which might have provided some shade on Sunday. Van Wyck was completely bare. and Peekamoose was dropping.

David, April and the spring can be a tough season to hike. Bring the snowshoes or don't bring them, tough! Because of the mixed temperatures, early spring starts are generally better. Furthermore, just because the trail may be tracked out (not fresh powder), the warmer temps can make the snow mushy so that even the tracked trails may require snowshoes for some people.

Wow Jay you saw four little snow hikers on top of Table! Spongebob must have gotten out of my pack and made them. He is too happy for my liking, as I like to be annoying.

Hey Jay, We Had A Late Start Around Noon Time. We Did See Your Cars At The Start But Knew You Guys Were Planning On An Early Start. Our Whole Trip Up And Down Indian Head Was Soft Slippery Snow. It Was My Daughter's First Trip Since Late Fall And She Should Have Been Snow Shoeing! She Had A Blast Sliding Down Towards Jimmy Dolan Notch. Took Lots Of Photos On A Beautiful Day! Tony
