The second annual Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour will be shown at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, N.Y. on February 28th @ 7:00pm.
It will feature spectacular, highly rated films that incorporate the theme of "mountains" (loosely defined). They were judged by a juried film competition that takes place in Banff, Alberta every year in early November. These are the best films of the Banff Film Festival, and they are uniformly inspiring, spectacular, and heartwarming - sometimes, all in the same film.

Best of all, this event benefits the Adirondack 46er Conservation Trust, which benefits you and the mountains that you love (eg, the Summit Steward program, which is funded by the Trust). We invite you to be there, and to also invite family, friends, and strangers to this event. The venue is a state-of-the-art theatre that will surely enhance the viewing experience. It is also on a Saturday night, which means - no excuses!
Most importantly, I want to ask for your help. We need help! Anyone who is interested in helping out with the planning and execution of this charitable and worthwhile event, please contact me at: [email protected] The Trust is a very small group of people, and although we are jointly hosting this event with the Rensselaer Outing Club of RPI, we can use all the help we can get - particularly in publicizing and advertising the event. If you are a 46er, this is a way to "give back" to the mountains that is every bit as useful as doing trail work.
If you wish to help, please contact me offline at the above address, or by phone at (518)664-2980 (evenings and weekends).

All this and more info about the RPI event is at:

The PayPal link is active, so you can purchase tickets now. Any questions can be directed to Jim at [email protected], or 518-664-2980.

Last year was not a sell out, BUT... The organizers learned from last year and are doing a lot more publicity. Another BIG factor affecting attendance this year: Last year's mid-week showing was just before spring break, when RPI students had papers and exams. This year it's a Saturday night well before mid-terms. We expect a larger crowd this year so it might be good to buy your tickets now. We hope it will be an enjoyable, memorable evening for you. Indeed, we hope these films cause the month of February to end with as much exhilaration and joy as the glorious Patriots victory will surely cause at the beginning. :) :D ;)

more description and info

One of the organizers wanted me to post additional description and info:

This event should be of great interest to all who enjoy the great outdoors in all its variety, in all seasons.
The Banff Film Festival World Tour is hosted locally and jointly by the Adirondack 46er Conservation Trust and the Rensselaer Outing Club of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, in Troy. Door prizes are sponsored by Eastern Mountain Sports and Eagle Creek Travel Gear.

The Banff Film Festival features spectacular films from around the world that celebrate the theme "mountains". It is much more than a Warren Miller ski movie event - these films span the broadest spectrum of how the word "mountain" can be defined: They include the most jaw-dropping, fist-clenching climbing films to be seen anywhere, as well as the funniest, the most inspiring, the most thought-provoking - all celebrating man's relationship with places of higher elevation. From the Mountain Film Festival which takes place every year in early November, these best-of-the-best films are taken on a road tour throughout Canada, the United States, and even Europe, where they can be enjoyed by a far wider audience than could ever be accomodated in Banff. The films you see were winnowed by a juried film competition so they are the best films of the Banff Film Festival.

Best of all, this event benefits the Adirondack 46er Conservation Trust, which benefits you and the mountains that your members love (in the Adirondacks, that includes, for example, the Summit Steward program, which is funded by the Trust).
