Good grooved trail all the way from Garden to Bushnell Falls LT, where I camped. Snowshoes or skis required.
2 hikers preceded me up the trail to Slant Rock and broke trail over Shorey Shortcut to the Range trail and NEARLY to the top of Basin. Joined by other hikers on the way. All six of us turned back just above the ladder due to ice conditions and very deep snow.
Trail from Slant Rock up toward Marcy was not broken, but the snow-covered groove was visible. Other hikers were observed on Haystack.
Crampons useful to get up the short ladder section near the top of Basin where the ladder is ice-covered.
Snow depths seemed to vary from about 3 feet at the Garden to 5 or 6 feet above Slant Rock. Trail signs visible about one foot above the snow. Good base with 1 to 3 feet of powder on top.
