We ascended Major by the Bay View Trail, which was dry with good footing. Some patches of snow between Major and Straightback, not bad. Mayflowers in bloom everywhere on Straightback. Avoided the trail over Quarry and its attendant logging. Took the Mt. Klem Loop, possibly ill-advised as the great views were somewhat offset by some long, deep snow sections with some postholing. Beautiful Mayflowers at Round Pond in the usual places. Some snow up to Belknap and deep, continuous, tedious snow from Belknap to Gunstock, thankfully, not far. Hike down the ski trail on firm snow was great as was the dry Ridge Trail over Mt. Rowe and down. Many sections of trails are adorned with winter's downed branches and and take some care to follow.

We bare booted all day, recommended.

Very warm day with summer-like hazy views and bright open hardwood forests. Always a fine hike and a good workout. Tuckermans at the end (thanks, Giff!) was memorable.
