I haven't posted for a while now, so I thought this would be a good trip to report on.
Albee's report from 6/18 was a great guide. I actually printed it and took it with me.
I will add that the first 2/3 of this hike is awesome! Nice leisurely walk on moss and grass covered trail. Easy to follow, but obviously seldom used. You gain elevation without really realizing it.
The last 1/3 is tough. Lots and lots of blow downs. A leashed dog made this a real pain. Over, under, around. He always chose the wrong way!!
The highlight of this trip is actually on the way down. The stroll through the blueberry meadow with amazing panoramic views!!
Limited views from the top from a small patio made with the rubble of the old tower.
1 car in the parking lot at 9:00am when I left, and 8 when I returned at 1:00. Ohio, NJ... Popular place I guess.

Glad you enjoyed it, Yogi!

One other thing I noticed when I was up there - there was very little sign of moose droppings on the trail. Seems like an unpopular area for moose - I wonder why....

I couldn't imagine trying to navigate those blowdowns with a dog on a leash! I would've let him run free as soon as we were off the Nancy Pond Trail, but you might not be comfortable letting him loose in the mountains.

Did you see the cannister?

The Nancy Cascades and Nancy Pond are really popular places. I'm not surprised there were such a variety of cars there.

Yogi,
I had today off and was planning on doing Bemis after Albee's report as well. The trail was awesome. It was soft on the feet and going under and over those fifty blowdowns was fun, and tiring. The Blueberry meadow was interesting and gave great views of the area.
Thanks Albee and Yogi.

Bemis and Nancy

After several hikes up Bemis over the years, and a Bushwhack from Nancy to Bemis I have always wished for a connector trail between the two to make Nancy, Norcross, Bemis a reallly nice loop hike. Kinda neat seeing the old telegraph poles still standing after all these years. The solidified bags of concrete are kinda fun to see up there on the trail too. Always wondered what unfinished project they were intended for.

Well, it's an easy enough bushwhack between Nancy and Bemis, right!? So I hear!! :p

I did it twice in winter, may be easier with no bugs and swamp frozen

I did find the canister Albee and saw your notes.
As for the dog (Yogi jr.) he's a little young and rambunctious at 1-1/2 years old yet to let go the leash. First squirrel and I'd be spending my day on an unplanned bushwhack to who-knows-where!
Does anyone know when the tower was abandoned or last used?
