Ok, looking to get a few sunrise hikes in in the nest few months.

What are peoples favorites?

No need to be 4K, could be underwater for all I care, as long as the views of the sunrise are spectactular. (ok, MAYBE not underwater, just trying to make a point)

I seem to remember a very memorable (redundant??) Sunrise on one of the Triprymaids, LONG before I knew camping on the trail was really a stupid thing to do...

So, what are people's favorite Sunrise hikes, for those nights when your mind is going a million miles an hour, you can't sleep, and you say, ok, just gonna get up and go for a hike!

Thanks in advance.

:)

Sunrise Hikes

I guess it depends on how far you want to hike, but here are a few of my favorites:

The Little River Sugarloafs off of Zealand Road:

East Royce in Evans Notch:

Isolation:

And of course the ultimate, Mount Washington:

WOW!

That is EXACTLY what i am looking for. Phenominal Sunrises, and wonderful photos, thanks for sharing.

Need to do something besides drive to the Sandwich Creamery in my PJ's and eat MORE Ice Cream!

I just hope they don't have a video camera of me in my pjs at 2am...

An easy one is Great Hill...I saw a great sunrise there a few months back.

Though I haven't been on it early enough, I would assume Kearsarge North would provide an excellent sunrise.

Up early out of Imp to Mt. Moriah...

or hike it via the south ledges (Stony Brook) and catch very early morning glow getting brighter and brighter as you walk.

WOW! Thanks for all the help and the photos!

I will have to investigate the Sugarloafs more!

Kearsarge North is a great suggestion too.

Great Hill is an awesome sunrise, Geneva and I are up there almost every morning. :)

Although sometimes the sun sneaks up there before us!

In addition to Isolation, Bondcliff was amazing as well.

Edit: Obviously, neither of these are hikes you "just get up and go for a hike". Missed that part of your post. :)

Bondcliff

Yeah, Bondcliff wasn't too shabby, either. :)

As Dug says though, it's not a wake up and climb kind of a deal, unless you're at Guyot Shelter, or for Isolation, the tentsites at Davis and Isolation junction.

Man, I'm itchin' to backpack, big time!

Another thought, moonrise from the Sugarloafs can be kinda' nice, too!

Actually, Boncliff is probably a viable option with my sleep patterns these days...

Thanks to all for your suggestions and the beautiful photos!

Umm, yeah. I promise you, there are no campsites anywhere near the summits of either of these peaks. So, don't bother looking.

Where you live? Pretty much anything
Baldface Loop
Low's BaldSpot
The Bluff
I'd guess any of the Moats
Chocorua
Cherry Mtn/Mt Martha
Glen Boulder
Boott Spur (when the sun starts to hit the bowl it is pretty special)
Lion Head
Monroe
Eisenhower
Stairs
BaldPates
Goose Eye (sweet!)
Mt Caribou
East Royce
and the #1: Shelburne Moriah.

Ok, I have stop now...

If you want to venture east/northeast of the Whites, Bigelow's North Horn and Avery Peak of the Bigelows are magnificent at sunrise  West Peak isn't quite as spectacular for sunrise, because Avery Peak is immediately to the east. The South Horn is magnificent too, but I think the North Horn is a bit better.

They're easy early morning mini-hikes if you stay at one of the AT campsites the night before.

marty
