A great day to do a High Peak. It was cool and clear all day. No sign of any flying pests. The trail up the Brothers was mostly dry. After the third Brother, I did run into some mud and running water on the trail but nothing that was a problem. As the trail started to climb up Big Slide (before the junction with Slide Brook Trail), I ran into some snow spines for maybe a hundred feet. The snow was fairly firm and I only postholed once. I don't think I ran into any blowdown. The first set of ladders was in pretty bad shape. I think there was more rungs missing than present. However, you can get up that section fine with what is there.
Several couples were on the summit when I got there, but I had the trail up to myself. There were only about 15 cars in the Garden parking lot when I got there. Nothing like midweek hiking to avoid the crowds.
Special Equipment needed - just the basics.
