we set out 8am from parking area just before the start of the trail wich is a dirt road you could drive down if you had higher clearance vehicle and park a half mile farther down just before the pond outlet water crossing.we crossed over easily with low water at this time.we headed up to fire warden/horns pond tr. junction 45 min.to junc.form there headed up to hornd pond. We got to horns pond camp at around 11:30 after a pleasant hike on great footing and easyish grades.after that it was a steap graded rocky climb up to horns peak.great views of sugarloaf and spaulding ridge.we hoofed it over to west peak through a beutiful smelling forest with a shaded rolling trail.then hit one more steap to summit west peak with great views around 1:30 decended to avery col. where there were nice tent platforms but water was scarce at all springs from horns to avery.i took a quick jaunt up to bag avery because it was so hot i was up and down in 30 minutes flat and headed down fire wardens trail super steap with great footing and stone steps.after the moose falls camp area it leveled out a bit for an nice hike outat the car about 5:30 but I pushed on all day because of chance of lightning.better off staying overnight to avoid long loop and enjoy the," BONDS" of Maine.
live it up amc TRAILBLAZER.
