While hiking the Mizpah Cutoff trail yesterday I noticed this thing in the woods, quite a distance from the trail (to the south of the trail, about .2 or .3 miles from the trail's Crawford Path end).

It's pretty large, about the size of a breadbox. It looks like a birdhouse, but that seems like an odd place for one. Any idea what it is? (And if it is a bird house, how it might have gotten there?)
